Tasty Lima: Cooking Class + Market Tour + City Tour

PERUVIAN COOKING CLASS

• Our tour guide will pick you up and take you to a local market in the Surquillo district.
• We will visit different stands accompanied by our guide who will explain everything about the Peruvian food culture
• Once we buy all the products at the local market, we will head to our kitchen in Miraflores to start cooking.
• The cooking class includes a native potatoes festival, fruit tasting, 1 starter and 1 main dish.

OPTION 1:

• Causa Rellena (Starter): Delicately prepared layers of mashed potatoes, seasoned with Peruvian yellow chili, and a touch of fresh lemon, and accompanied by a select mix of vegetables and quinoa, creating a combination of flavors that evokes the richness of Andean gastronomy.

• Lomo saltado (Main Course): Thin strips of beef sautéed with onions and tomatoes in a tasty mixture of soy sauce and vinegar, enhancing the flavors with a balanced fusion of textures and aromas. This dish is served on a bed of fluffy rice, accompanied by crispy French fries, creating a delicious and comforting combination.

OPTION 2:

• Ceviche(Starter): Small pieces of fresh fish, carefully marinated in lemon juice, mixed with spring onions, fresh cilantro, cooked sweet potatoes, corn, and a touch of hot pepper (optional). This preparation highlights the freshness of its ingredients, creating a harmonious fusion of flavors that evoke the most authentic culinary traditions.

•  Pescado a la Chorrillana (Main Course): Fried fish fillet, covered with an exquisite sauce made from onions, tomatoes, garlic, and chili peppers, which provides an intensity of unique and authentic flavors. This delicious dish is accompanied by soft sweet potatoes and fluffy rice, creating a perfect combination of textures and aromas that delight the palate.

OPTION 3:

• Caigua Rellena (Starter): Pieces of fresh caigua, carefully hollowed out and stuffed with a mixture of shredded beef or chicken, red onion, tomato, cilantro and a touch of yellow chili (optional). This preparation highlights the freshness and crunchy texture of the caigua, combined with the deep flavors of the ingredients, creating a fusion that honors the most authentic traditions of Peruvian gastronomy.
• Aji de Gallina (Main Course): Shredded chicken, slowly simmered in a savory sauce made from yellow chili peppers, garlic, and onions, combined with a creamy blend of evaporated milk and chicken broth. The dish is served alongside boiled potatoes and fluffy white rice, with a garnish of fresh cilantro for added fragrance. This preparation emphasizes the richness of its ingredients, offering a comforting and flavorful experience that reflects the heart of traditional Peruvian cuisine.

LIMA CITY TOUR

• We will pick you up directly from your accommodation and, together with our expert local guide, we will take you on a fascinating walking tour of the historic center of Lima, the vibrant capital of Peru.
• During this tour, you will learn about the history of Lima, from its foundation in 1535 to become the “City of Kings”, a title that highlights its importance as the political and cultural center of the Spanish viceroyalty in South America. You will have the opportunity to see some of the most emblematic buildings in the city, such as the Gran Hotel Bolívar, with its majestic architecture, and its surroundings full of stories, as well as admire Plaza San Martín, one of the most representative places in Lima.

• We will continue our walk along Jirón de la Unión, one of the main streets of the historic center, where each building has its own story to tell. We will walk to the Plaza Mayor, the heart of Lima, where you will be able to observe the imposing Government Palace, the Archbishop’s Palace, the majestic Lima Cathedral, and other buildings that have played a crucial role in Peru’s politics and history.

• The historic center of Lima has been considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991, thanks to its impressive colonial buildings, which allow visitors to relive the city’s colonial era.
• Lima also stands out for being one of the oldest capitals in South America, and as such, it was the most important center for the Spanish Viceroyalty in the entire continent. Throughout this tour, we will explore some palaces and castles that still hold secrets from that time.

• One of the most fascinating points of the visit will be the Monastery of San Francisco, where you can admire its impressive baroque architecture and the mysterious underground catacombs, one of the most intriguing attractions in Lima, offering a unique insight into the colonial history of the city.

• In addition, we cannot fail to include in the tour the House of Peruvian Literature, a historic building that was once a train station and now houses a space dedicated to Peruvian literary culture. From the outside, you can appreciate its elegant architecture and learn a little more about the writers and poets who have left their mark on Peruvian literature.

• Before ending the tour, we will make a final stop at the Church of Santo Domingo, one of the most important temples in Lima, known for its colonial architecture and religious history. Inside, you can admire its impressive artistic details and learn about the influence of the Dominican Order on the religious and cultural life of the city.

• All our prices included pick up and drop off to your hotel only when it is located in: Miraflores, San Isidro, Barranco and Lima centre. Outside these places, you have to pay a small fee for your pick up/drop off.
