1. HUACA DEL SOL Y LA LUNA

  • Moche Temples & Museum (From Salaverry Port)Our tour includes visits to the Temples of the Sun and Moon, important religious sites of the Moche culture (100-900 AD), where we will explore the impressive Huacas—large pyramids with flat tops.

2. PLAZA DE ARMAS

  • The historic heart of the city, this iconic square is surrounded by elegant colonial mansions, traditional balconies, and the imposing Trujillo Cathedral. Here, we’ll learn about the city’s viceregal history while enjoying a pleasant stroll through one of the most iconic spaces in northern Peru. Ideal for photographs and appreciating the colonial architecture.

3. CHAN CHAN

  • After lunch, we will embark on a guided tour to visit Chan Chan, the largest adobe city in the Americas. This extraordinary archaeological site spans an impressive area of approximately 20 square kilometers. Once the capital of the Chimu civilization, Chan Chan showcases remarkable architectural and artistic achievements, with its intricately designed walls, expansive courtyards, and beautifully crafted reliefs. The site offers a fascinating glimpse into the advanced urban planning and cultural heritage of one of the most important pre-Columbian societies in the region.

4. HUANCHACO

  • huanchacoOur journey will then continue to the historic fishing village of Huanchaco, a charming coastal town renowned for its rich maritime traditions. Huanchaco is particularly famous for its traditional totora reed boats, known as caballitos de totora, which have been used by local fishermen for centuries and are still in use today. These unique vessels are crafted from the abundant totora reeds found in the nearby wetlands and serve as a testament to the enduring cultural heritage of the area. The village provides a fascinating insight into the ancient fishing techniques that have sustained its people for generations.
  • The tour will conclude with a return to Salaverry Port.

 

NOTE:

  • Tourism in Trujillo is not as developed as in other cities in the country. Be aware that vehicles may not be very modern, and restaurants offer traditional and local cuisine, which may not meet the standards of higher-end dining. Also, the guiding techniques are linked to the local customs, which could differ from those in more tourist-oriented areas.
